IN THE COLD
When temperature drops, our body reacts to protect us and our behavior changes. What are the impacts on our skin?
Our skin: the first barrier against heat loss
Our skin has to change the way it operates when it gets cold, creating a barrier against low temperatures. In particular, the sebaceous glands produce less sebum when temperature drops, with 2 main consequences:
• Our skin dries out
• Our body becomes more vulnerable to exterior aggressions, like pollution, allergies, or metals, sebum having an antibacterial action and acting as a “cement” between our skin cells
Cold weather changes our lifestyle
During winter, we spend more time indoors, in heated environments, where the air is drier: our skin gets dehydrated.
