The purpose of fragrances is to make products more pleasant to use. Because they serve no purpose other than as marketing arguments, they increase the risk of reactions on sensitive skin and take the place of ingredients that could provide real benefits for skin
The cosmetics industry commonly uses parabens as preservatives. As endocrine disruptors, they are regularly pointed out as a health risk and as accelerating the aging of the skin when it is exposed to the sun.
Silicones are occlusive ingredients, which means that they form a film on the surface of the skin, blocking its ability to breathe. Being derived from petrochemicals, they also contribute to the pollution of the planet.
Endocrine disruptors are substances that alter the functioning of the endocrine system, i.e. the production and action of hormones essential to metabolism. The World Health Organization (WHO) has been warning about these ingredients for several years, pointing to "an increased risk of health problems".
The common misconception in cosmetics is that all alcohols are harmful to the skin. While ethanol and isopropanol dry the skin, break down its protective film, and increase the risk of skin reactions, fatty alcohols are not harmful to the skin or health. Therefore, we have removed the first two ingredients from our list.
EDTA or Ethylene Diamine Tetra Acetic Acid is used in cosmetics to slow down the proliferation of bacteria. Nonetheless, it is alleged that it is toxic to the body, pollutes the planet, and irritates the skin.
Of natural origin, essential oils are known to represent an important risk of skin reaction for sensitive skins. Essential oils should also be avoided during pregnancy.
